February 5 signals a new lunar cycle, and the start of Chinese New Year celebrations. Where will you be celebrating in Dubai?

 

Mazina, Address Dubai Marina

Dubai Mall

In celebration of Chinese New Year, Dubai Mall will offer an exciting programme of authentic activities showcasing art, music and dance through arts & crafts workshops, traditional Chinese games and exciting live performances.

The hub of activity will be in Star Atrium, where a highly decorative red pagoda will host a daily programme of traditional arts and crafts, including Chinese finger palm painting and calligraphy, egg carving, umbrella art painting, knot tying, Chinese lucky bag making and wood carving pen workshops.

Starting from late afternoon, the Star Atrium will host a line-up of entertainment, including a Chinese Parade, Chinese Mask Changer, Chinese Puppet & Calligraphy plus live musical performances using traditional Chinese instruments. In addition, roaming characters from Chinese folklore and myth will bring guests good fortune and a great photo opp.

Mall of the Emirates

Mall of the Emirates will host a striking production of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, which will take visitors on a journey through one girl’s dreams and fantasies while showcasing the stunning traditional Chinese performing arts, with lions and dragon dances and acrobatic feats.

The mall’s Luxury Wing will turn into a cultural hub with activities highlighting Chinese crafts. Visitors can try their hand at different workshops, including calligraphy, Chinese fan craft, rice painting and playing Mahjong, a popular game of skill, strategy and calculation in China.

During the Chinese New Year, shoppers will be rewarded with amazing promotions and a daily prize of AED 15,000. Visitors who spend AED 1000 or more in the mall’s shops, dining outlets or entertainment facilities will be eligible to enter the prize draw.

Al Seef

Take the kids for a taste of China this month, as 30 stands will assemble along the streets of Al Seef for the Food Market that is set to offer visitors the chance to sample all things deliciously Chinese, from spring rolls to dumplings and wontons, as well as favourites from the region.

Dubai Parks and Resorts

There’s plenty of fun to be had at Dubai Parks and Resorts this week to celebrate Chinese New Year.  Riverland Dubai will be decked in red and gold traditional lanterns and will host roaming parades, entertainers and dragon dances. Families can take part in activities such as Couplet Pasting to convey wishes for the new year and a tea ceremony. Don’t miss the festive market featuring Chinese arts, crafts and gift items. There will also be a Dragon on the River show in the evening with a display of light, sound and colour. Catch the fireworks show on February 4 at 8pm.
