Morpheus 8 is a combination of micro-needling and radio frequency energy that promises smooth, radiant and wrinkle-free skin, but is it worth the hype?

Our skin begins to show indications of aging as we get older. The production of elastin and collagen is also decreased, which causes the skin to lose its shine and youthfulness, so if you would like to get the lost glow and sheen of your skin, Morpheus 8 promises the following benefits:

  • Reduces acne scars.
  • Doesn’t require extensive downtime.
  • Minimally invasive treatment.
  • Boosts collagen production.
  • Treats aging signs.
  • Offers quick and effective results.

Morpheus 8 therapy uses micro-needling to deliver radio frequency radiation, which increases collagen formation without harming the skin’s surface, while also creating better tissue support and remodelling elastic fibres.

The treatment has become very popular with celebrities and influencers in search for younger looking skin, so I was curious to try it out.

My appointment at Nova clinic began with a skincare consultation to make sure the treatment was suitable for me and to help my therapist determine what level of treatment best suited my skin type.

After that, my face was cleansed and the therapist applied numbing cream all over my face and let it sit for one hour. Morpheus 8 sends 24 tiny needles down into your skin, so it can be a painful treatment.

Once an hour passed, the therapist once again cleansed my face to remove any excess numbing cream and she used an antiseptic on my skin to make sure no pollutants or irritants penetrated my skin with the needles.

It was now time to start the actual procedure. The machine was turned on to a moderate level —not too high for a beginner, but also not very light, and my therapist said she could set it to a lower level if I found it too painful. The Morpheus 8 applicator is positioned against the target areas to develop microchannels that stimulate the skin’s recovery process.

She started with my forehead and slowly moved around all my face and neck with quick pulses, repeating the entire process in certain areas about three times, which took around 20 minutes. As someone with a moderate pain tolerance and experienced in other beauty treatments that involve needles, I found the treatment pretty painful, specially around my cheeks and neck.

Once the treatment was complete, my therapist applied a mask to help soothe the inflamed skin. Immediately after my treatment, my skin was definitely red and splotchy. It felt tight and burned slightly, but nothing too uncomfortable. It is recommended to not apply makeup for at least 2 days and use an SPF 30 broad-spectrum UVA/UVC sunscreen. After one day, my skin was almost back to normal and by the second day, my skin felt glowy and radiant.

A month after the procedure, I see an overall improvement in my skin texture and my face looks firmer and brighter. As the production of collagen takes several months to take place, I am positive I will see an improved result in the next 3-4 months.
