10 tips for mothers to reset themselves both physically and mentally

Motherhood’s path is filled with surprises and shifts. As we enter the last quarter of the year, Noona Nafousi – Founder of Neo Noor, provides ten strategies to navigate the transformative journey of motherhood with resilience and grace.

The ever-evolving journey of motherhood is akin to walking through an uncharted territory. There’s a gamut of emotions involved – joy, worry, elation, exhaustion. Just like any major transition in life, the one thing it guarantees is change.

Change can be jarring. It’s like a gale force wind, unpredictable and strong. Yet, within its wild currents, lies the power to create unparalleled magic.

  • Think about it. Redesigning your professional trajectory post-motherhood.
  • Taking that overdue sabbatical.
  • Rekindling an old passion.
  • Falling in love with your post-partum body.
  • Becoming a beacon of resilience and strength for your family.
  • Setting boundaries to protect your mental space.

As an executive career coach, I see many mothers grappling with changes, big and small. And the fourth quarter of the year, with its unique blend of closure and anticipation, offers a brilliant opportunity to reset.

Here are ten ways to navigate this change, to ensure you not only survive but thrive:

  1. Set your intention through reflection: Before diving into Q4, reflect. What worked? What didn’t? What do I need to release to make room for what I want? What do I need to let go of? What do I want to call in? This simple act of retrospection can be transformative.
  1. Physical rejuvenation: Exercise isn’t about getting that ‘pre-baby body’. It’s about celebrating what your incredible body has achieved and continues to do. It’s looking in the mirror and speaking to yourself kindly and moving your body from a place of appreciation. Wanting it to get stronger not punishing it. Talk to your body kindly and you will end up moving it and nourishing it from a place of love.
  2. Set clear goals: With the year-end in sight, jot down what you wish to accomplish. Be it in your career, personal development, or relationships. How will you feel once you have achieved it? Who do you need to BE to be the women that has accomplished those goals?
  3. Mindful mornings: Before the dawn breaks and chaos ensues, gift yourself ten minutes. Breathe, meditate, or just sip your coffee in peace. Create a ritual to some time alone in the morning. So much magic happens in moments of solitude.
  4. Harness your energy: Energy is your most valuable currency. Learn to spend it where it matters, be it at work, with family, or on yourself. Only say yes when it means it does not deplete from you. Saying no can be hard in the beginning but it is so empowering when you learn to do it. If it’s not a ‘hell yes’ then it’s a ‘hell no’.
  5. Seek mentorship: Engage with someone who’s been there, done that. Their guidance can illuminate your path in unimaginable ways. Just knowing you are not alone, and someone has walked this path before you is so comforting.
  6. Prioritize mental health: Mental well-being isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Journal, talk, ask for help. Do whatever it takes. Whatever you need to do clear your mind from mental fatigue us mothers have is important.
  7. Empower your identity: You are not just a mother. You are a powerhouse of potential. Own it. Whether it’s returning to work, taking on a new role, or simply voicing your needs.
  8. Stay connected: Lean on your tribe. Share, laugh, cry, shout, or dance. Human connections are healing. Can you arrange a weekly or monthly get together with other mothers?
  9. Embrace the change: Instead of resisting, lean into the change. Your adaptability is one of your greatest strengths as a mother.

The coming changes in Q4 ask you to level up in every way – your beliefs, actions, and very core. It’s about saying a resounding YES to growth, joy, and creating a life of your own design.

As an executive career coach, I guide countless women in rediscovering themselves amidst the beautiful chaos of motherhood. The change you seek begins with a single step, knowing what needs to change, having the right mindset and taking the necessary action to support yourself and your mental and physical well-being.

Remember, you have the innate power to be an Agent of Your Change.

To every mother reading this, know that within you lies a universe of potential. Q4 is not just the end of a year, but the beginning of an extraordinary new chapter.

Here’s to you, and the magic you’re about to create.
